Levenger to open outlet store at Audubon Place
MEMPHIS, TN · June 27, 2006 Levenger,
a high-end retailer of products designed for reading, writing, work
and travel, will open an outlet store at Audubon Place on August 14.
The company joins other upmarket retailers such as Williams-Sonoma
and Pottery Barn in the strip mall, offering primarily
Levenger-designed merchandise for at least 30% off original retail
prices.
The Levenger product assortment includes
high-quality leather goods that range from laptop carriers,
briefbags and totes to wallets, PDA holders and travel organizers.
The company is a leading designer of products that support
note-taking, including a wide range of folios and notebooks as well
as its own top-grade paper. Fine writing instruments, modular desk
systems, bookcases and multi-use furniture pieces are also in the
Levenger line.
The outlet merchandise will be a mix of overstocks,
scratch-and-dents and gently used merchandise that’s been returned.
Levenger will occupy a 2930-square-foot store in
Audubon Place, which is about 10 miles from the Levenger
Distribution Center on Raines Road. The company moved its
warehousing facility here in May from South Florida. It serves as
the fulfillment center for all Levenger merchandise ordered through
its national catalog of “tools for serious readers” and its website,
Levenger.com.
“Putting an outlet store near our warehouse makes
sense logistically and also gives us an opportunity to better
acquaint our Memphis neighbors with Levenger,” says Steve Leveen. He
is the company’s CEO and co-founder, together with his wife, Lori
Granger Leveen.
Established in 1987, Levenger was the first company
in America to design products with readers in mind. The family-run
company is headquartered in Delray Beach, Florida, the site of its
first retail establishment. Other stores are in Boston and Chicago.
Levenger expects to employ about a dozen local
workers in its outlet store, which will be open from 9 a.m. to 9
p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, beginning
August 14.
