Marshall Field's Partners with Levenger
to Open First External Retail Shop

High-end supplier of reading and writing products opens boutique at State Street Store

June 20, 2003, Minneapolis, MN -   With a touch of the fountain pen, Marshall Field's inked a deal to open a Levenger shop in its State Street store - the first such shop in the country.

Levenger, whose proprietary line of high-end reading and writing products is familiar to millions of catalog customers, will open a 2300-square-foot shop on the first floor of Marshall Field's flagship store in September. It will be Levenger's only bricks-and-mortar presence beyond its headquarters store in Delray Beach, Florida.

"Our partnership with Levenger enables us to bring our guests the top notch reading and writing products they demand," said Ralph Hughes, Marshall Field's regional manager. "We're excited to give our guests access to great Levenger products in a one-of-a-kind retail setting."

The Levenger line ranges from small leather goods and briefcases to custom reading tools and mobile furniture, and is in keeping with Marshall Field's standards of quality. Just as compatible, says Levenger co-founder and president Steve Leveen, is a shared dedication to serving customers.

"Marshall Field's has a long and notable history of pleasing guests, and giving a guest what she or he wants," said Leveen. "We've followed a parallel path at Levenger and see this as an ideal partnership. It's an honor to be affiliated with such a legendary department store."

Marshall Field's is creating a new shopping experience unlike anything else in retail by delivering the expected and unexpected in a fun environment. Throughout 2003, new boutiques with exclusive merchandise will be opening at the State Street Store, which, based on its size and grandeur, has been designated as a marketplace for a wide array of exciting new concepts. Most recently, Marshall Field's welcomed fine British shirt tailor Thomas Pink, New York-based home designer Thomas O'Brien, and the vibrant home design of London-based Designer's Guild. Additional boutiques will soon be introduced, such as fine stationery purveyor, Papyrus. Partnerships with Chicago designers and hometown icons, along with frequent community events, will further strengthen Marshall Field's status as a Chicago icon. Overall, Marshall Field's is reinventing virtually every floor of the State Street store with new partners and improved signage, merchandise presentation, visuals and sound, making Marshall Field's State Street store the premiere destination in retail.
