This is my second sling. I bought the original 10? years ago. It was a beautiful smooth oxblood leather -- but electronics are getting bigger, and the bag wasn't!

This one is 10% or so bigger. The inside pockets have been moved to the front -- excellent change!

It's the standard Levenger leather -- smooth & soft but may not be as durable as the last bag.

It holds everything: Outside side stash big enough for two pairs of glasses. Inside pockets big enough for phones etc, but just a little too tight for a small hard-cover Moleskine -- we needed another quarter inch.

Ipad, journal, AND big headphones, etc. Correct dimensions for all my stuff.

Sits high on your back - but that's where it belongs.

Design modifications:

1. The old bag relied on a pin to keep the cover closed. This one uses a magnet. The magnet is not strong enough to keep a loaded bag closed. This would have required me to return the bag, but it is otherwise nearly perfect. So I had my shoemaker add a pin (dead center under the buckle). Problem solved.

2. The sides bulge out. The cover flap would not keep out rain. Two rivets pinning the sides more firmly to the Ipad slip resolves this entirely.

Photographs show modifications.

So now it's almost perfect and I can retire the old sling. I'm going to miss the oxblood leather, though.

I love Levenger products and have pens, portfolios, tables, and the Bomber backpack. I saw this at 1/2 price before Christmas and told my wife it was on my list. I have had the same small bag for my iPad for over 5 years, and while it works, it is cheap material and I love leather.

When I opened the bag as a gift, I was surprised by two things:
1. It is much larger than the photos show - the front area is more like a purse - just way to much space for and a lot more bulk than needed.
2. The second issue was just as non-functional for me. While this is a sling which I like, the strap is too short (way too short) to be used as a cross body sling. So it hangs on the shoulder and is not as secure or as comfortable.

I am sure many would love this bag - the material and construction are quite good, but its bulk and short strap are a problem for me. My main complaint is that the pictures on Levenger's site do not show these issues - the bag looks thinner than what you receive, and the strap will not stretch for cross body wear. The images seem to hide these issues.

One rivet makes it excellent!

Comments about Levenger Saddlebag iPad® Sling:

I carry a Circa junior, pens, sunglasses, keys, knitting tools, a fauxdori (Field Note sized), charger and cell phone, and first aid things. All fit comfortably in in this bag and I find it comfortable to sling. I can probably fit in a nexus 7, but I tend to put my nexus 10 in my knitting bag instead.

As I am short, the 2nd to the shortest hole works well. As others have noted, the magnet closure is the only drawback. I tested it, and it just doesn't stay closed. However, my cobbler took the buckle, put in one rivet (going through everything and in the seam area between the pockets) (it matches the hardware rivets), and for a very little outlay, the bag is fully functional, and one of my favorites.

Nice sling

Comments about Levenger Saddlebag iPad® Sling:

I was looking for a leather tech case that is smallish and does not hurt my shoulder. This one is great in that it somehow makes you feel that the load is not that heavy. The only problem I am having with it is the clasp. As other reviewers mentioned already, the magnet is not strong enough so the clasp comes undone very frequently and the contents spilled all over. I got a leather glue and affixed the buckle part on the magnet portion on the bag hoping it will hold.
I like the bag for myself enough to bother with the glue but I would not recommend it to a friend.

Comments about Levenger Saddlebag iPad® Sling:

The quality of the leather is what I expect from Levenger, that is to say, it is perfect.
Plenty of room for light stuff and numerous pockets to choose from. The one-shoulder format is perfect for me since I only ever carry over one shoulder anyway. Only drawback is it's not deep enough for a file folder or typing paper. I will use this a lot!

Lots of Compliments

Comments about Levenger Saddlebag iPad® Sling:

Originally I purchased this bag in brown, but did not like the color shade, so I returned it. I believe the Black version is much better looking. I was somewhat disappointed with the strap closure, the magnet was not very strong so the bag would not hold its shape or stay closed. Fortunately, the buckle is real, so I had it sewn on the bag. That fixed the issue, now the bag stays closed and holds its shape.

I have a smaller shoulder saddle bag purchased from Levenger years ago, which I like much better. It is made of a heavier leather and people are always complimenting me on it. I wish Levenger still sold it.

Great for organization

Comments about Levenger Saddlebag iPad® Sling:

Always on the lookout for a bag to carry daily that can hold my iPad mini, junior circa notebook as well as wallet and other general purse fillers, i was drawn to this sling. I read through the posted comments and was concerned about the issue of the magnet closure not being strong enough, but I ordered the bag anyway. True to the reviews, the magnet did not keep the bag closed when it was loaded with my daily essentials. Since I love everything else about the bag, I took it to my local shoe repair. He removed the magnets, attached the flap the was previously for show, and I can now use the buckle to keep the bag closed. It is now everything I had hoped for from this bag. I love it!

Don't leave home without it.

Comments about Levenger Saddlebag iPad® Sling:

I'd been looking for a man purse for awhile when I found this. It is perfect, given that I now don't go anywhere without a tablet of some sort. It has the typical Levenger high quality that I have found in all the other leather goods I have purchased from them.

There is the problem of the short strap, though. This is mentioned in several of the other reviews, too. Doesn't Levenger believe in focus groups, or field testing? Do they consider designers gods who can do no wrong? No shame; people can, and do, make mistakes. The length of the strap is one of them. It turns an A++ design into a B-. They should offer a fix to disgruntled buyers like me. An extension strap would do the job.

Others have also mentioned the weakness of the magnetic closure. The magnet can only be so strong on something that is going to hold electronic devices, but there are alternatives, like a simple twist lock (in brushed nickel, not tacky brass).

I'd buy Levenger's other man purse in a heartbeat but simply cannot afford it at this time. I'll try to make do with this one for the time being.
