Eavesdrop on Leonardo's 'table talk' with Ross King

He was a polymathic genius, but Leonardo da Vinci was also playful, fanciful—and often fearful of humans' fate. Bestselling author and scholar Ross King shows us the Leonardo behind the canvas, as the artist tells the tales he might have told at court and to friends over dinner. Ross' perceptive narrative guides us through this little-known Leonardo: his bestiary, fables, jests and riddles. We see his fantasia (Italian for imagination) in the context of his time, and that makes all the difference. It's a revealing portrait of a Leonardo unknown through history to all but the most diligent and perceptive of scholars. We commissioned Ross to write this original work because of his authority in the field of Italian Renaissance art. With images from the Royal Collection at Windsor, and beautifully rendered in Tuscan colors with a design that's pure fantasia. Only from Levenger.

Why Steve loves this book
“ Since none of us can actually have dinner with Leonardo, this is the next best thing. See how he is full of surprising passions and unexpected wit. What an honor to have Ross King make the introduction and take us to this special evening. And I do believe this is our most beautiful book ever. Look how the table is set! ”

Fantabulous I bought this as a gift, but after paging through it, I couldn't let it go, and ordered two more as gifts. It does show a very human side of a giant of a man, the stuff never included in documentaries and biographies. January 24, 2015
A gorgeous book! Leave it to Levenger Press to keep finding unknown treasures and serving them up in such impressive packages. Everything about this book from content to colors is truly gorgeous––mouthwatering, in fact. It doesn’t take much fantasia to see why an author of King’s stature would relish revealing this little known side of da Vinci. December 6, 2010
Beautiful book, little substance I'd recommend this book to any friend who appreciates well-designed, elegant books, but there's little real information involved. It's really for Leonardo lovers who enjoy his quotes and illustrations. July 24, 2014
A decent effort but seems so much more could have been written by the author. Nice volume presented. May 29, 2014
Beautiful book A charming book, also very amusing and informative. Beautiful attention to detail in the illustrations and lettering. Makes a wonderful and unusual gift for anyone interested in Leonardo da Vinci ... or in jokes and riddles. October 16, 2010
My Latest Rave to my Bookworm Friends I now know Leonardo almost better then myself. What a brilliant pseudo Nostradamus mind. The man is justly rated ... an absolute intriguing genius! My commendations to Levenger for such an excellent piece! October 7, 2010
