2013 marks the 150th anniversary of the Gettysburg Address—now you can own this collector’s edition to commemorate it
One-hundred fifty years ago this November, Abraham Lincoln delivered what would become one of America's most famous and sacred speeches. Even today, though, scholars are not sure what Lincoln read from when he delivered his address at Gettysburg on November 19, 1863. Nor was anyone (including Lincoln) completely certain about the number of words. But this we do know: Abraham Lincoln wrote — in his own hand — at least five versions of his Gettysburg Address. Now Levenger and the Library of Congress bring you, for the first time in the history of this Civil War masterpiece, all five versions digitally reproduced in full-color, full-size facsimiles. Two of the versions, the Nicolay and Hay — one the most rough and the other the most mysterious — are also reproduced unbound, ready for you to lift from their pocket in the back of the book and fold as Lincoln did. They are the closest any of us can ever come to holding in our hands the paper that Lincoln held in his. To this unique experience we add authoritative narratives by Douglas L. Wilson and three other Lincoln scholars, plus carefully curated period documents and photographs from the Library’s collections. Here is an edition of an American treasure to be treasured anew, and most especially in this anniversary year. Only from Levenger.
  • The first full-color, full-size facsimiles of all five handwritten versions of Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address
  • Two versions are also reproduced unbound in the book’s back pocket
  • Published in association with the Library of Congress
  • Reproductions of old maps, photographs, telegrams and letters on the Gettysburg battle and dedication, all from the Library’s extensive archives
  • Original narrative by Lincoln scholar Douglas L. Wilson
  • Additional narratives by Lincoln scholars John R. Sellers, Lloyd A. Dunlap and David C. Mearns
  • Printed on archival paper
  • Smythe-sewn for longevity
  • Hardcover linen binding; 136 pages
  • 9 1/2 x 12
  • Printed in America by an eco-friendly printer
  • Not in the bookstores — only from Levenger

This book is an great addition to any Lincoln or history library. I hope Levenger will produce similar Lincoln books in the future, like one on Lincoln's Second Inaugural Address featuring full size images of his handwritten version and the printed version he read in 1865.

Long Remembered is a poignant and revealing visual and literary journey through the five versions of Lincoln's Gettysburg Address, an address that forever changed America. Levenger and the Library of Congress successfully provides the reader with a deeper examination of one of Lincoln's finest works. As the nation prepares to commemorate the sesquicentennial of the Civil War, I can think of no holiday gift more timely or well suited for young readers, and those who love history than a book that will certainly be Long Remembered.
