Diffrient Task Light II
Decent lamp, bulbs are hard to find
I've had this lamp for about a year now and it is without a doubt, one of the nicest-looking desk lamps I've ever owned. With that said, I do have a few gripes. I'll list them first and then rattle off everything I like about the Diffrient Task Light II.
First, the "one-touch arm positioning" description is a bit of an exaggeration. The lamp does take some adjustment in order to get the arm positioned correctly. No big deal there. The next (small) issue I have with this lamp is the shade. It's made out of light and somewhat-dinky plastic that l think cheapens the quality statement made by the rest of the lamp's components. However, the shade does get the job done so I guess I'm fine (not over-enthused) with its construction. But I do have one more beef. The bulb for this lamp is a complete hassle to replace. I've been looking for replacement bulbs (my original bulb is still working) for at least six months now and there are none to be found anywhere. I just want replacement bulbs on hand and locating one that has specs identical to the original is proving much easier said than done. I did contact both Levenger and the manufacturer of the lamp thinking they might stock replacement bulbs but they do not. They did assure me that a replacement bulb would be easy to find at one of the nearby hardware chains or online but that has not been the case by any stretch. One online retailer seems to carry the bulb I need but unfortunately its currently out of stock. So, as it currently stands, I have no idea where or when I'll be able to find a replacement GU24, double twin tube, 18 watt, twist and lock bulb. I have to say that this is a serious drag. I'm now worried about using the lamp too much. Gotta conserve bulb-life!!
Ok. Bulb-woes aside, this a very nice lamp! The base is sturdy and solid. It keeps the rest of the lamp planted firmly on my desk whenever I feel the need to adjust. The rocker switch is a similarly-hearty component of this lamp's build and it turns the light on and off with a satisfying click. The bulb gives off fairly warm, (I turned it on to check but turned it off again in order to conserve bulb-life) sufficient illumination. The reach of the lamp's arm is rather impressive. I really like that. Once the arm is positioned properly it stays in place...for the most part. The plastic shade swivels up and down (to further direct light) without sticking. Very nice. The lamp is also very easy to dust, so cleaning it off every now-and-then will take about a minute. It came with a bulb. Very cool! It also shipped disassembled but putting together the four pieces took no time at all.
What else can I say? This is a great lamp! It works quite well and looks awesome. Unfortunately, I feel its value is compromised somewhat by the difficulty I've had in locating a spare bulb. Keep in mind, I'll have no real issues with this task light once I manage to obtain some replacement bulbs...but I'm not sure when that'll happen.
