Very useful for research. Don't bring to Germany!
I bought this for my husband who is an academic and he has used it for years in his research. He finds it hugely useful. However, this morning he was detained in the Frankfurt airport as it is considered a cudgel in Germany and you may not bring it in because of their weapons laws. So be aware that if you travel with this you will need to check it in your luggage!

I never heard of Levenger but my son wanted this. I was impressed by the speed of service, packaging and overall impression the box etc will make for a gift.

very nice product...but it would be even better if it was MADE IN THE U.S.A.

A researcher's must have!
I am a doctoral candidate and this is so helpful when copying information from books for my dissertation. It keeps books open (regardless of the size) and doesn't damage the pages. I also find it useful to hold a book open for pleasure reading when eating lunch or breakfast. I cannot imagine life without my book weight!

Good enough to be confiscated at Frankfurt Airport
By someone who already had one at home! Who knew?

I have always wanted to try the bookweight, but had to wait until it was on clearance. But now that I have it I love it. It works- even holding open a 3" thick trade paperback. And the books aren't damaged. I'm impressed!!

Very good, but not the original
I was thrilled to see this design back, as I still constantly use the one I bought for myself years ago. I have since purchased many bookweights as gifts, including some of the markedly inferior designs that replaced this one. However, though this looks like the original design, it is slightly shorter and somewhat less flexible Still, it is probably the best bookweight out there, and I would still recommend it, and will likely come back to it for gifts again in the future.

Classic and perfect
I bought this bookweight years ago and use it constantly. It's a classic, perfect tool, and if you use books for research--needing to keep them open hands-free while avoiding damaging them in any way--this little item is a must-have. It will do the job just right and last a lifetime. Highly recommended.

Still an imposter
Recommended with reservations.
I was one of many who pleaded with Levenger to bring back the original, flexible leather bookweight, and immediately purchased one when these new ones became available. I was disappointed, however, that the updated version is not the same as the original. It is shorter, a bit wider, and most importantly MUCH less flexible. Admittedly better for travel than the unwieldy bookstop, but lametably still an imposter. Thanks for trying, Levenger.

For the Editor in All of Us
I have purchased products from Levenger for the past several years and the products only seem to get better. I purchased two of these “old fashioned” book weights after sitting on the fence for nearly a year as to whether or not I truly needed them. However, I wish I would not have waited so long. I currently have a job where I spend countless hours editing legal/scholarly articles and was constantly in need of a way to hold down reference books and other materials. After using the book weights for a few months I can say that they are made of durable leather, have stitching that makes them seem very elegant, and offer just the right amount of flexibility and weight distribution to hold down the pages of even the most stubborn of books.
