On the tiny wings of history: hummingbirds from 1887
What Redouté is to flowers, John Gould is to hummingbirds.  A leading British ornithologist who worked with Darwin on correctly identifying his bird specimens from the Galapagos, Gould (1804-1881) was as much artist as scientist when it came to hummingbirds. He was captivated by the tiny, turbo-charged creatures, and produced exquisite lithographs of these brilliant little jewels. We present 58 loose facsimile prints of Gould’s work, all on archival-quality paper, and nested in a portfolio box. At 8 x 10 inches, each is suitable for framing. A booklet containing the list of plates also includes a fascinating introductory essay by the head of the Cornell Ornithology Laboratory on both the birds and their champion. (A recent Gould original was selling for $16,000.) For those who are fans of these pint-size masters of flight, this portfolio just may capture their hearts. Only from Levenger.
  • 58 facsimile prints of John Gould’s full-color illustrations of hummingbirds
  • Prints are loose and sized at 8 x 10, for easy framing

Hummingbirds Portfolio Absolutely beautiful! Sheer joy to learn more about these joyful birds and to have individual prints suitable for framing and gifting. Can't wait to create a framed indoor collection on our wall that rivals the activity outside our windows and doors here in Colorado! Thank you for the exquisite detail and craftsmanship that went into this portfolio! I count on Levenger Press for these one-of-a-kind book beauties! June 20, 2014
Almost as good as a REAL hummingbird! I was so favorably impressed with the book, its lovely box and the quality of the prints. We have a gorgeous garden and have lots of visits from hummingbirds during the summer here at the end of Long Island. This book will be given as a very special, unique gift to a very good friend who absolutely is "nuts" about beautifully presented books and prints of hummingbirds. T August 14, 2014
Very Unique As a bird enthusiast, hummingbirds are one of my favorite to see in the wild. These prints really capture their beauty. June 6, 2014
Humming-Birds 1887: A Portfolio of Framable Prints Humming Birds 1887 is a portfolio of beautiful prints. I enjoyed looking at them and think it is well done. A lovely reproduction of the 1887 original paintings by John Gould, which otherwise I would not have had the opportunity of acquiring them. The glossy paper, although I did not expect it, makes them last longer and will keep them forever for us to enjoy. June 3, 2014
Disappointing set of prints While the packaging was very nice, the prints have a lot to be desired. First they are printed on glossy magazine type paper stock – and no we are not talking thicker cover material. Second, while the prints are nice, the colours, definition, and saturation are not really there. Given the price, I had expected the same quality as the Redouté: The Grand Collection. May 7, 2014
