I'll admit it -- I bought these to meet a minimum purchase amount in order to get a discount.I'll admit that I was pleasantly surprised by them. They are just a smidge larger than a traditional cardboard composition notebook, but, they are much better made, and bound, and the cover is more flexible, yet still quite sturdy (and, I think it would be forgiving if you got a drop or two of coffee on it.)I like the paper -- it's thicker than a traditional composition notebook -- writing in it with a ballpoint pen, the ink doesn't bleed through, or show through. And, with a good pencil, the writing experience is very nice.I've got one on my desk, that I use to outline poems, and, I've got one in my messenger bag -- the flexibility of the notebook works well in the bag. I've only had it a short time, so I don't know how it will hold up for the long term, but, after a week of being carried around in a bad with a laptop, a tablet, a DSLR camera, and various other supplies for my work, it still looks new.

A Solid Choice
These pads have a decent weighted paper, which takes fountain pen ink well with little bleed-through. They also have a stitched spine, which seems like it will keep the pages intact longer.Read complete review
These pads have a decent weighted paper, which takes fountain pen ink well with little bleed-through. They also have a stitched spine, which seems like it will keep the pages intact longer. One drawback is that the newer versions don't have as many sheets of paper as older versions did, so those with a leather cover may find it was stretched by the older, black-and-blue-bound versions. Those were also a little different in size, so your leather cover might not fit these new versions as well as you'd like. Those looking for a nice, unlined journal or a journal with a grid pattern on its pages need to keep looking, unless Levenger decides to produce these journals with those options. As of this writing (Sept. 2014), only ruled pages are available.

Comments about Levenger Notabilia Notebooks (set of two)- Ruled:
i really find these notebooks great ad very usual. I have a levenger foler and this notebook fits perfect. The pages stay in place and I can fold the notebooks to write on the side. I work in a busy ER and use this for notes as i get alot of referrals. the lined paes don't bother me as I juist write over them and don't use the lines anyway

Love the thickness of the paper. It's very hard to find quality paper in this type of notebook. The cover is sturdy on it's own. Maybe I'll splurge for the leather one later.
love the pads

Love the quality. Use in my bomber folio. Looks great. They are spendy. Could have a lower price.
This is an excellent notebook, for the quality, my boss loves it its hard to find a notebook that dont bleed through with the pens he uses. and we finally found one that wont. so thank you so much!

I have been using the old school composition notebooks for years and witnessed the deterioration of the paper quality. I am pleasantly surprised by the quality of the paper of these Notabilia notebooks. My writing is smoother and the ink doesn't run through the paper. They are perfect for journaling. Maybe someday you will have an unlined one…Great product. I will be reordering.
Please bring back the gridded paper!
I'm a teacher and I use the comp books to write my daily notes for my classes. I will work problems and write the notes the students will get on the front sides of the pages and then after I teach the lesson I write in improvements and ideas for next year or even the next day on the back pages (when its open the lesson page and reflections page are next to one another). These journals stay together and last MUCH longer than the ones you buy at the office supply stores and the paper is a dream to write on. My hand doesn't get as cramped when I use these.BUT… the subjects I teach require a lot of graphs and sketches so I want the gridded paper (or little dots) so it's easier to keep things lined up. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE bring back the Notabilia journal with GRIDDED paper! PLEASE??
Good notebook for fine pens
from Helena, MT
This notebook has much higher quality paper than the notebooks you can get at stores. What is really nice is that they fit in a fabulous leather jacket, also from Levenger. I do agree with some of the other comments that it would be nice to offer this design in a grid.
oh how I long for blank pages...
from Boonies, Maryland
I have been a long time user of Notbilia refills, once when cash was tight I used a old school black and white marbled refill. (bad idea) The paper is smooth and dense, creamy and so easy for my fountain pen to glide over. Now there is no grid paper option (so sad about this) and there NEVER was a blank page unlined option as far as I know. Oh how I wish and wish and WISH there would be! Heads up, my leather cover in light brown is about 8 years old, and has taken on the most gorgeous broken in, well loved patina, all stitching and binding is in great shape. Keep up the quality, bring back grid notebooks, and PLEASE make unlined/ un-ruled notebook refills. PLEASE?
Durable, Smooth Writing Surface
from Irvine, CA
I've bought these notebooks as refills many times for my leather portfolio cover. Lately, I'm using the notebooks in my Italian class. Because I review my notes many times over, I am very glad the pages are so durable. And in class, the smooth writing surface makes taking notes nearly effortless. This is a wonderful product!
