The softer side of the Palomino Blackwing Pencil
Pencil aficionados from John Steinbeck to Thomas Wolfe to E.B. White have sung the praises of the Palomino Blackwing pencil, which was originally created in the 1930s by Eberhard Faber. Many corporate acquisitions later and amid dropoff of pencil enthusiasm, this beloved pencil was discontinued...but not forgotten. Charles Berolzheimer II has brought it back, now in a modified version with a slightly softer, smoother lead for artists.

Great Pencil for Lefties I ordered these pencils, the sharpener and a Circa Jr with Rhodia paper. I am very pleased with the combination of these pencils and paper. I am left-handed and pencils tend of smear as I write but not these. Another thing I love about these pencils is that the lead is centered. Many cheap pencils today don't sharpen well because the lead is not exactly centered so you end up with wood running down the side of the lead. Not these! January 15, 2014
excellent. pencils I like to use pencils for writing lists. I find almost all pencils on the market inferior. The lead is not soft enough to write a fairly dark, legible script. Also the erasers do not erase well. They leave behind what was written and/or residue, (streaks). These are excellent on all points. The lead, (sorry, graphite), leaves a fairly dark, crisp script. Also, the erasers erase completely. The pencils sharpen easily,(also, the graphite does not fall out after it is sharpened). Excellent product. July 5, 2015
So smooth it is like wiring with gel These pencils are a joy to write with, They leave consistent, solid dark lines with even light pressure on the paper. I've pencila from several different orders, unlike mass-market pencils, the lead is consistently centered an sharpens to a sharp point without instantly cracking in the sharpener. Not the cheapest pencil, but worth every penny. The only problem is keeping them from wa during out of my office by anyone who borrows one. March 5, 2015
PalominoAddiction I am totally hooked on these pencils of perfection! Using them makes every written chore, crossword puzzle, professional meeting, or just jotting down "to do" list more pleasurable. This is a splurge that is well worth the price. Those of us that appreciate the value of using pencils will understand. Enjoy! P.S. I have no intention of attending PA (Palomino Anonymous). High quality An excellent pencil I had found in England and now happy to find here. Super for sketching in either soft or hard versions; sharpen very well to very fine point or anything in between. June 19, 2014
Silent Writer Good dark print. Soft lead so writes well and super easy Doesn't smear June 12, 2014
GREAT GIFT IDEA ... I had heard that this was a great pencil by a co-worker, who is also an artist. Based on their recommendation I bought this item as a gift for a "pencil connoisseur" who had only rave reviews for the product. December 30, 2013
Wonderful! I use pencils everyday and I'm really picky (my once favorite Ticonderoga pencils are no longer as great as they once were--I don't know what happened to these inexpensive beauties). These Palomino pencils are fantastic! They are easy to write with, sharpen to a fine line and erase beautifully. They will be a staple on my desk now. October 27, 2013
almost there! I found the writing end of this instrument to be terrific and a pleasure to use, bu the other end, although unique in shape, doesn't really do the job of erasing the mistake created by the soft graphite. To really remove mistakes, one must still use another eraser or live with the ghost. At the price, both ends should equally good. October 16, 2013
Excellent Quality I was very pleased with the quality of these pencils. The lead was a little softer than I expected, but it makes them an absolute pleasure to write with; leaving a rich black line that is incredibly smooth. The removable eraser is a brilliant idea, and I love the fact that you can get refills. The only drawback is that the holder for the eraser is a little sharp on the edges, and may catch the paper if the eraser gets too short. Overall, a great product. August 18, 2013
