Writing takes on a new luster with a True Writer ballpoint
Our True Writer Obsidian Ballpoint pen is a rich, deep, solid black resin ballpoint that engraves beautifully and looks ever professional.
The True Writer design story
By the end of the last millennium, the ubiquitous disposable pen had just about taken over. Though a few pen companies still catered to serious collectors with elaborate, intricate (and exorbitantly expensive) designs, it had been years since anyone offered a beautifully made everyday pen. Inspired by the Esterbrook Pen Company, which served the writing needs of the general public for almost a hundred years, Levenger set out to inspire contemporary writers with a modern take on the classics. In February, 1999, the very first True Writer was introduced.

Great gift We purchased this as a gift and it was very well received. Great pen, looks a lot more expensive than it cost. August 28, 2014
Great Pen I got this pen for my son as a graduation gift. He really enjoys the classic appearance and the writing quality. Levenger is my go to place for writing supplies and gifts. July 31, 2014
Great writing instrument. I collect pens but I wanted a new one that wouldn't break the bank. I have wanted to try a true writer for a long while now so when it went on sale I thought why not. I wasn't disappointed. Solid pen, writes well. I went with fine ink but I think medium would be better based on how they make their ink. July 18, 2014
Best pen EVER You might call me a pen collector. Whether purchased or given as a present, I have many pens. The best purchase ever made was the Levenger True Writer Ballpoint. Others might say I should have purchased the Rollerball or even the Fountain Pen. The Ballpoint was right for me. Perfect length, perfect heft, smooth writing, it does not get any better than this pen. Yes, there many pens out there costing much more than the True Writer, but none better. Thank you, Levenger, for such a wonderful writing instrument. May 10, 2014
Good pen Good basic style pen, especially for the price. February 3, 2008
The Obsiddian pens from Levenger are some of the best so far in the True Writer series. These are great pens at a great price. February 1, 2008
Great pen value I have a collection of true writer roller balls and fountain pens so this was my first ballpoint purchase. The pen has a solid feel and looks like a more expensive pen. I like the fact that it uses gel refills as an alternative to the ball point refills. January 16, 2008
Best pen I have ever had! When I talk about value, I talk about Levenger pens. I am a seminary professor and my colleagues and students always want to know where I get my pens. All that I use are from Levenger and I am proud to tell them. The pens feel great in the hand, write well, and of course, look great! November 29, 2007
Not if you are hard on your Pens I twice tried True Write Ballpoints b/c: a) They were relatively inexpensive b) They used Parker Gel refills. Both of them cracked as a result of opening and closing the pen with too much force. If you are hard on your pens, this is not for you. If you are more delicate, this is a good choice November 2, 2007
Write on! The True Writer black obsidian ball point is truly a nice pen. I found the barrell to be slightly too broad, and the weight could be a tick lighter. But it's craftsmanship is suberb and I will definately purchase other Levenger pens & products in the future. October 19, 2007
