Humming-Birds 1887: A Portfolio of Framable Prints

Price: $79.00
Item: RB1555
On the tiny wings of history: hummingbirds from 1887
What Redouté is to flowers, John Gould is to hummingbirds.  A leading British ornithologist who worked with Darwin on correctly identifying his bird specimens from the Galapagos, Gould (1804-1881) was as much artist as scientist when it came to hummingbirds. He was captivated by the tiny, turbo-charged creatures, and produced exquisite lithographs of these brilliant little jewels. We present 58 loose facsimile prints of Gould’s work, all on archival-quality paper, and nested in a portfolio box. At 8 x 10 inches, each is suitable for framing. A booklet containing the list of plates also includes a fascinating introductory essay by the head of the Cornell Ornithology Laboratory on both the birds and their champion. (A recent Gould original was selling for $16,000.) For those who are fans of these pint-size masters of flight, this portfolio just may capture their hearts. Only from Levenger.
