Once upon a mouse named Despereaux
The Tale of Despereaux: being the story of a mouse, a princess, some soup, and a spool of thread -- and now, immortalized as this endearing bookend. On one side is a passage from author Kate DiCamillo’s award-winning and near-classic tale (tail?). On the bottom is a coda from Kate that she has signed. Fashioned from resin with a bronze finish, our mighty little mouse will uphold your tales and tomes with its hefty weight.
A truncated tale of Despereaux’s tail
Despereaux, a tiny mouse with too-big ears, falls desperately in love with the princess whose castle he lives in. One day, while cornered, he gets his tail trimmed by the castle’s cook. When Despereaux learns that the princess has been kidnapped and is being held in the dungeon, he vows to rescue her. With a spool of red thread for his armor and a needle as his sword, he dashes off to save her. Our bookend captures Despereaux in his passionate act of chivalry.
