On Becoming Abraham Lincoln
from Miami Springs, FL
I treasure all of my books on Abraham Lincoln, but this may be my new favorite. Written in a contemporary voice in the time of Lincoln, I feel like I have discovered new insights into our 16th president - free of the tangles of the majestic lore created over the last century and a half. To learn something new about Honest Abe is difficult given that I have devoured everything written on him since I was 8 years old. I have also fallen in love with the feel of the book, its pages and the words contained on every one of them. For any Lincoln-phile or history buff, it is a rare and delightful occasion to find words written in the time of our heroes of long ago. This book is an absolute gem.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Every American should have this book
from Olean, New York
loved the cover--the color of the book and the copper-penny portrait. And I thought the endpapers were very impressive. It really was a thrill to read his inaugural address in his handwriting. It was almost like being there at the time. The illustrations are lovely--appropriate, not too fussy, beautiful in their simplicity. The callouts on the pages are a very good idea. It makes it easy to read in addition to calling attention to what you want to emphasize. I would give this at least 5 stars!
