A classic, world-famous pen style revived for the writing culture of today
The Elmo’s frugal minimalist was a necessity of the 1920s, but the inventiveness of the company’s fist technical director provided a design that would stand on its own merit – and survive the test of time. A century ago, Heinrich ‘Elmo’ Helm’s ingenious conical ends offered a way to dispense with expensive componentry without sacrificing decorative flair. Its expressive resin and stainless steel hardware echoes the Elmo’s 02’s distinctive angular lines. Helm’s fluted clip design channels the panache of the 1920s, with early hallmarks of Art Deco. Available in Asiago, Jet Black or Sorapis.

About Montegrappa
Manufactured since 1912 in the same historic building on the bank of the River Brenta, one of the most picturesque areas of the historic town of Bassano del Grappa in the prosperous north-eastern part of Italy, Montegrappa has the distinction as the first Italian pen manufacturer. Founded as a “Manufacturer of gold nibs and fountain pens,” the Bassano factory found itself in a key position during World War I. Among the many soldiers who used Montegrappa pens (then known as Elmo) to write letters home, there were also two celebrated American writers, Ernest Hemingway and John Dos Passos, who were both volunteer ambulance drivers at the front. Whether it be the colors reminiscent of the master painters or the ornaments of Baroque palaces, Montegrappa's pens are reserved for those who can't live without the emotions inspired by the feel of a crafted writing instrument between their fingers. Shop all Montegrappa writing instruments.
